posture at work

This is one of the biggest contributors to muscle disfunction and pain. Many jobs these are desk/computer based and involve hours of sitting and looking down at computer screens and keyboards. If we stay in bad positions at work for long enough, we can develop postural changes that cause our muscles to work differently to the way they were designed. Over time this can cause chronic problems usually in the lower back, shoulders and neck. Having your desk area checked regularly for ergonomic efficiency is vital to ensure you are giving yourself the best chance to avoid injury.

I can provide advice on helping reduce muscle joint pain associated bad posture at anytime but is especially helpful during your initial consultation. Please see details on the contact page or give me a call on the number above.
neck and shoulder pain and its relationship to trigger points "knots"

One of the most common issues that cause neck and should pain for office workers. A trigger point is an area of muscle within a muscle that has become damaged. The contraction of the muscle fibers can also remain "switched on" causing either acute pain or a "dull ache" in the area. Trigger points can also refer pain to other areas of the body giving a false impression of the original cause of the pain. Reduction of trigger points is a fairly straight forward process of applying a considerate pressure to these areas which "resets" the muscle contraction and therefore reduces the pain. Don't live with these nasty "knots". They can cause prolonged pain and eventually become a chronic issue. Sports massage can easily resolve them!

Brilliant article for anyone suffering from injury related to a computer based job. Especially relevant to people who take part in sport and also have this sort of vocation. Just remember that injury you may sustain in your sporting lives may be exacerbated by your posture or sitting position at work. Thankfully I can help you with this! Let me know if you have any questions.

osgood schlatters

I'm seeing numerous parents at the moment worried about severe knee pain in their children. This is common, especially with boys, between the ages of 10 and 15. The pain is usually centered on a bony protrusion, just below the knee cap, called the tibial tuberosity, which is the attachment point for the quadricep muscles. This area of bone has still not “hardened” sufficiently in some young children and becomes inflamed when these thigh muscles pull on it from above. It can be very painful in some instances and is usually associated with a growth spurt or frequent sporting activities. If your child has this type of issue, please feel free to email/telephone me for some free advice on reducing the symptoms.
